Wisconsin holds a special place in my heart. As a kid, our family spent almost every summer weekend relaxing by the shores of Green Lake at our grandparents' cottage. When my brother's college roommate Jeff reached out looking for a photographer at his wedding in Wautoma, just a 20 minute drive from Green Lake, I was SO excited. I mean, who wouldn't be super happy to use work as an excuse to sneak in a vacation?
Erica and Jeff are truly the BEST - fun, easy-going, warm - the kind of couple that can make friends with just about anyone. They chose Camp Lakotah for their wedding and reception, an intimate campground set amongst the pines along Little Hills Lake. As guests arrived, they were welcomed by cute DIY signs and yard games leading up to a gorgeous ceremony site.
Erica got ready in a pretty little cabin with her bridesmaids and mom. After putting on her gorgeous lace dress she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and nearly started to cry. One of her friends quickly shouted, "don't cry, you'll ruin your makeup, that shit's expensive!" We were all dying, best bridesmaid ever :)
Erica had good reason to feel emotional, she looked absolutely STUNNING...
As Jeff waited for the ceremony to start, he was completely cool and collected. Just before they walked down the aisle, Erica and Jeff covered their eyes and held hands for one beautiful moment.
The emotional ceremony started with tears of joy and ended with a big group high-five, it was pretty perfect.
We took pictures by the lake after the ceremony, the weather was just amazing. This pier was surprisingly sturdy, and so close to the water it made for a gorgeous spot for photos.
Erica and Jeff had asked me to design their save the dates and wedding invitations, something I love doing for couples. We had fun recreating their save the dates amongst the pines just before cocktail hour!
Once we finished with pictures the party really got started. Jeff and Erica treated their guests to an epic cheese table befitting Wisconsin royalty. Jeff's mom made their beautiful "naked" cake, it looked so pretty surrounded by anemones and peonies. Down by the fire pit Erica had arranged plush pillows and blankets to make the evening warm and cozy, and there was a DIY s'mores station for the ultimate campground dessert.
After the sun set, guests danced the night away to the sounds of a local bluegrass band, including a special guest performance by Jeff's dad on the drum kit. It was an epic party, everyone had an amazing evening celebrating the newlyweds.
Erica and Jeff, thank you for inviting me to the party; love you guys and wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
