I taught high school art for eight years before becoming a professional photographer. To this day I still deeply admire my former colleagues who tirelessly gave of themselves for the betterment of their students. Rita was someone I always looked up to; an English teacher who was always smiling, always selflessly devoted to her career. I was truly honored when Rita asked me to photograph her wedding.
Rita and Marc have been together for over a decade, and their story is marked by love conquering any obstacle. When they first met online, Marc described himself as a bit intimidating because of his military past, but Rita is not easily intimidated. Even though they lived many miles apart they began seeing each other and grew close. When Marc was living in New York, Rita was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, but she never lacked for his support, comfort and love. Their bond strengthened over time, leading to their beautiful wedding just after Christmas.
Rita looked absolutely perfect in her lace Madeline Gardner gown, the moment when Marc first saw his gorgeous bride was one of the sweetest of the day.
On our way to the church, we stopped for a few quick photos at a park near Rita's home. Even though the snow had all melted, it was still beautifully crisp and wintry outside. Rita adorably described herself as a "gray-haired bride;" to everyone who saw her that day she was simply stunning.
The way these two look at each other...
When we arrived at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, the church was beautifully decorated for Christmas, making the perfect backdrop for Rita and Marc's wedding ceremony. As guests arrived they sang carols together in the sanctuary while Rita and Marc read letters from one another.
Marc's father joined the priest to help officiate the ceremony. It was a beautiful tribute to the joining of two families, united by God's love.
After they said "I do," Rita had a surprise for her new husband. The vocalist began singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Marc's favorite song, and the newlyweds adorably danced with joy in front of their families and closest friends.
Fun fact - the nativity scene at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is the same one from the movie "Home Alone!"
Rita and Marc held their reception at the lovely Weber Grill in Lombard. Guests were treated to an amazing meal as they signed Christmas ornaments for the bride and groom and listened to beautiful, heartfelt toasts. It was such a lovely evening, the perfect celebration for a wonderful couple.
Thank you, Rita and Marc, for sharing this beautiful day with us, we wish you a lifetime of happiness together <3
