Joy in the Midst of Trial : The Lewis Family

March 31, 2017  •  7 Comments

This job has been a blessing to me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. I am continually encouraged and amazed by the people I meet, couples and families that welcome us to share in their most beautiful moments. I have met so many people over the last seven years that, admittedly, some of the names, faces and stories start to run together. But when I first met the Lewis family, I immediately saw something different in them, something wonderful that I just had to share. The day we chose for their session was COLD; typical blustery March weather by Chicago standards. But the Lewis family arrived in high spirits, and their warmth made the cold feel so much more bearable.

This is a family defined by joy and love, but what was most remarkable about the Lewis family is that they are so positive in the face of trial. Their 11 year old son, Max, was recently diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. Max, a fifth grader at Roslyn Road School, is set to have a bone marrow transplant on April 5th. They are so thankful for his donor, an unrelated match, a young man who will become a hero for Max and his family. Max will be in at Lurie Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House for about 8 weeks after his transplant, so his family wanted to capture some sweet moments together before everything got underway. This was such a sweet and special session, I just love this amazing family.

Max, I know you are are ready to fight this battle, you are such a strong boy. Sending prayers and good vibes to this wonderful family as they face the coming weeks <3

They are indeed a beautiful family --you can see it in their wide-open smiles and joy in just being together. I have always been impressed with Max's obvious love for his sister... I know God is showering love down on him in the coming days, weeks, and months because I know he's destined for great things-- with that beautiful spirit of his ❤
